European Youth Championships 16-25 July / 2010 Istanbul
Organization by Turkish Table Tennis Federation
BOSI WELCOME
Among many places I visited last year, there is a special one I feel very tight and linked to, and it is Istanbul. For all my life I'll keep in mind two exciting souvenirs. First the Bosphorous bridge closed during the special exhibition ETTU, Turkish Association and Istanbul Municipality organized to highlight new Europe-Asia event in the most symbolical place. Second one was the event itself, since Europe got in Istanbul a historical win vs. Asia after a thrilling, neverending match.
Istanbul is not just one of the biggest and amazing European metropolis. Even (but not only) on geographical point of view, Turkish city is our next stage to come nearer to Asian table tennis, and 2010 European Youth Championships represent an overall rehearsal looking forward our heavy recovery. Although Europe beat Asia in
Istanbul, we perfectly know how hard our job to fill the gap is, but also know we can rely on these youngsters. And maybe Istanbul, once more, might deliver us a beautiful gift, that's our omen afterwards.
We also look at this huge event as an important step Turkish Association is tackling to find its place among European top ones. Passion, professionality, human and financial resouces are the special mix our Turkish friends set out to achieve a high-profile event. I'm persuaded they'll succeed.
European Youth Championships are probably the most difficult competition to organize, but Turkey had no fear and accepted the new challenge. The whole ETTU will support them at the best, addressing all the gratitude for the unbelievable scenario they gawe away to 2010 championships.
